When I first happened upon the internet, in 1994, websites were kind of like personal resumes. I used to love visiting random GeoCities websites to get to know total strangers. People are interesting!
Rather than a website about my writing or about my art, I’m just going to develop a website about ME. One of the things that occurred to me as I started to think about aging is how small the footprint I’ll leave behind is.
Since we didn’t have children, there will be no one to tell stories about me 50 years from now. There’s no part of me that will live on.
I’ve been thinking a lot about that, so I’ve decided to set up my own little corner of the internet so there will be some record that I exist. Think of it as a type of homesteading; I’m carving out a space where I can just BE, grow, and explore.
