Following one’s intuition is a tricky thing. It’s easy to follow those gut feelings when they are in alignment with what you want to do anyway. But following those quiet voices can be much more difficult — for me anyway — when I don’t understand the why behind what my guidance is telling me, or when it contradicts something else that I already want to do or feel I need to do.
I’ll admit — This started out as one of those times! Mid-September, I started getting a quiet nudge to give my services away for awhile. My mother was basically a professional volunteer, so in one way, that was easy to understand and relate to. It was what was modeled for me most of my life. In fact, I have a difficult time even charging for my services at all because the value of ‘service’ was so deeply instilled in me. However, the electric company and my web hosting company likes me to pay them with actual money.
At first I ignored my guidance, because it didn’t make sense. I’m trying to learn to value what I offer in a way that lets me feel good about the modest prices I charge. So, I tried to argue and reason with my intuition — as though that actually works. (I’ve never once had my intuition change its messages because of rational argument on my part.)
Finally, we — my intuition and I — came to a bit of a compromise. I am giving my services away for a limited time. You pay what you want. If you don’t want to pay anything, you get the same good service. If you pay twice my going rate, that works too. Either way, you get all I have to offer in the moment. No “half measures for half price.”
I do hope you’ll take me up on this limited offer. I don’t know how long I’ll be doing this. It just depends on when my guidance tells me to stop!
